What age is the best age to have children?

Babies bring so much joy to our lives, but being a mom is also hard work. If you’re putting motherhood on hold, that could lead to more stress down the road, according to research from UCLA. iVillage Chief Correspondent Kelly Wallace talks about the findings. “Our work and career demands are a little more intense, let’s say in our 30′s and 40′s than when we were in our 20′s,” said Wallace. “And also when we’re older we might need to be dealing with aging parents.  Caring for parents as well.  So that’s part of why the study found older moms and dads tend to be more stressed than the others.” Researchers looked at employed mothers and found 44 percent say they have too little time with their youngest child, 73 percent say they don’t have enough time with their spouse and 74 percent say they have no time for themselves. “The stress level is high as well for moms who are at home, who are trying to multi-task and take care of their kids while taking care of other matters in the household.  So, I think it’s fair to say there’s a lot of stress that goes around for all moms, whatever your age, right?” Researchers don’t suggest an ideal age for parenthood, but isn’t there something to be said for women who are a little older and wiser? “In the iVillage community someone said maybe the older parents are more stressed because they have the maturity to know that caring for children is serious business.  I thought that was a good point too.”
